Nowadays, finding scientific publications is not that big of a challenge any more. Honestly, just thinking about how people did this before computer based databases fills me with terror. Just imagine a few hundred pages long reference list. On paper. Now, imagine finding all articles on the list that contain some relevant information about your specific topic. I’ve already written a little bit about the 1000 Genomes project, so for today here is something that is somewhat similar, but possibly even more cool: the Neanderthal Genome Project (Ensembl, UCSC, official webpage of the project on the Max Planck Institute website).
With “short” reads getting longer and longer, read trimming seems to be more and more useful. In my experience, long reads tend to have a significant quality drop at the read end, regardless of sequencing platform, so it makes sense to trim these low quality parts off.
After weeks of hard work, it’s worth stopping for a moment and checking all the editions that have been published as a part of Omixon Academy. We might call it the first mid-semester. Please see all the entries below in the three categories we have been using.
